The 2016 Memorial Address will be delivered by Mr Bob Grantham, who is connected to John McGorrery, the shoeing smith on Stuart’s last journey.

Over recent times, the lives and stories of Stuart, his Companions, and Sponsors have been re-told via these addresses; however this will be the first concerning John McGorrery. McGorrery was then the champion shoeing smith of Australia. Care of the horses legs, feet and shoes would have been a key task on an expedition, perhaps not dissimilar to the role of mechanic and tyre repairer on a 4WD journey along the same route, today.

Following the Address, the Society’s Annual General Meeting will be held, culminating in afternoon tea for all (please bring a plate).

It’s all at the Tusmore Masonic Centre, Fisher St, Tusmore, SA, at 2.00 pm on April 3, 2016.
